How You Can Help

Give a little, help a lot

We are keenly aware that The Capuchin Day Centre could do nothing without the ongoing support and commitment of its donors, and we are incredibly grateful to those who provide the resources that keep us going.

The unique services of the Capuchin Day Centre continue to be needed more than ever.  If you share our values and would like to support the work we do, please think about contributing in one of these important ways:

Regular Volunteering

Volunteering regularly at the Capuchin Day Centre is a rewarding way to give back to the community.  Our volunteers assist with meal preparation, serving food and providing a friendly presence to those who visit the Day Centre.

Corporate Volunteering

If you are a corporation or business and are seeking a meaningful way to concretely express your commitment to social responsibility, please consider facilitating your employees to volunteer with us for a day or half-day.  A number of companies organise group volunteering days where employees work together to support the Day Centre’s activities.  This supports the work of the Day Centre while also fostering a team spirit among employees and providing an outlet for their desire to connect their professional life with a meaningful, hands-on social contribution to those who are less well-off.

Donations

Donations are of course crucial in helping the Capuchin Day Centre continue its work:

Monetary Donations
Financial contributions are essential to enable the ongoing work of the Capuchin Day Centre.  You can make a one-time donation or set up a recurring donation to provide ongoing support.

Donations of Food and Others Items
Contributing food and everyday essentials is a powerful way to support and care for our guests. We welcome donations of non-perishable food, fresh produce, and toiletries like toothpaste and shower gel. These generous gifts go directly to our guests, helping to support their health, comfort, and dignity each day.

For safety reasons, we’re unable to accept glass jars or bottles. Additionally, we’re currently well-stocked on clothing and don’t have room to store more, so we’re focusing on items we can share right away.

Suggested Items:

  • Tinned Food (e.g., vegetables, fruit)
  • Cereals (e.g., porridge, cornflakes)
  • Dried Food (e.g., rice, pasta, soups)
  • Treats (e.g., chocolates, crisps)
  • Tea and Sugar
  • Toiletries (e.g., toothbrushes, toothpaste, shampoo, deodorant, soap)

For Children:

  • Nappies (sizes 1 to 6)
  • Toiletries (e.g., children’s toothbrushes, toothpaste, wipes, baby shampoo, nappy cream)

The provision of infant formula to reduce the risk of nutritional deprivation for babies and infants is an important element of our family support services and in 2024 we distributed 6,563canisters of infant formula to families in need.

If you’d like to support families with infant formula, a financial contribution is a wonderful way to help, as we cannot accept donations of infant formula for safety reasons.  Your donation will be set aside for the purchase of formula, ensuring it meets all safety standards.

We are fortunate to be well-stocked on toys to give out at our Christmas Party on December. If you would like to support the families who attend the Day Centre this Christmas, rather than toys we would ask for gift vouchers for Smyth’s toy shops, which will allow parents to visit a shop and choose a gift for their child.

Note: Please do not donate glass jars or bottles.

Volunteer Fundraising

We invite you to support our services at the Capuchin Day Centre.

Your support enables us to continue providing essential services such as hot meals, food parcels, infant parcels, healthcare, and other social supports to those in need.

Our supporters have fundraised through events such as the women’s mini-marathon, Dublin city marathon, coffee mornings, cycling events, musical and singing performances, street collections, Christmas fundraisers, personal challenges, school/parish/workplace collections and many more.

If you are interested in organising or participating in fundraising events or activities to raise funds and awareness to support the work of the Capuchin Day Centre, please contact us at: fundraising@capuchindaycentre.ie
