Family Support Services
Early Intervention
The impact of food poverty is most keenly felt in the earliest stages of life. Nutritional deprivation in infancy can delay key childhood developmental milestones and have a life-long impact. The Capuchin Day Centre understands the impact of early trauma on children and aims to provide infant food and hygiene supports, alongside other interventions, that minimise that impact.
The Capuchin Day Centre has a dedicated family area where families with children can share a meal in a welcoming, safe and confidential setting. At the same time, families with young children can access essential baby supplies such as nappies and baby food.
We also understand the importance of education and how a child’s vital learning milestones can be delayed by the disrupting experience of family homelessness. With this in mind, our back to school programme provides the basic necessities a child needs to start the school year, including school bags, copy books, pens, and uniforms. This essential support helps to build a child’s confidence and resilience and offsets the long-term impacts of poverty on children’s educational opportunities.
