Medical & Hygiene Services

Essential and Accessible for All

Simply put, poverty and homelessness are not good for one’s health.  As the Capuchin Day Centre responded to the basic physiological needs of our guests by way of the provision of food and meals, it became increasingly clear that health and hygiene were also areas of significant need, and the Day Centre has responded through an onsite clinic and showering and clothing supports.

Led by a full-time Clinical Nurse Manager, the Capuchin Clinic works in partnership with SafetyNet to deliver essential health supports to the homeless people who access our Centre.  Our on-site multi-disciplinary clinical team of professionals includes a GP, Nurse, Chiropodist, Optician and Dentist while we also offer Cancer Screening, Pre/Post Natal Care, Children’s Vaccinations and a Diabetic Clinic.

Last year this service provided 4,076 consultations – making a significant difference to the lives and well-being of our guests.  The Day Centre also provided 7,123 showers for rough sleepers and gave 380 people onsite haircuts with the voluntary support of Haircuts for the Homeless.
